In addition to Grandmaster events, the Tata Steel Chess Tournament also organises amateur events that are open to players of all levels.

Tournament instructions

After you have completed and submitted the entry form you will receive a confirmation message on screen and by e-mail. Please ensure you provide an accurate e-mail address on your form. If you have not received a confirmation in your inbox, please check your junk e-mail folder. Duplicate applications are not allowed. From Monday 16 November, a list of participants will be published on the website.The weekend-three-round event and the nine-round event get overbooked every year. Therefore participants are not allowed to enter for both events. If entries are made to both events, the entry in the nine-round event will be cancelled. The weekday-three-round event may be combined with any other event. 

Tournament rules

Any player who, for the first time in a game, arrives at the chessboard after more than one hour after the scheduled time to start, will lose the game unless the arbiter sees a good reason to lengthen the term.

Smoking is not allowed in the playing rooms, nor bringing in and/or drinking alcoholic drinks.

Any use of electronic devices is forbidden in the playing rooms. This includes mobile phones, laptops, notebooks and tablets.

Prizes

There are prizes available for all events.
Prizes can only be claimed within thirty minutes of the last round reaching its conclusion.
