Chess Grandmasters play Philips Stadion PSV


At 2 pm the world’s best chess players started the 5th round of the Tata Steel Chess Tournament in the Philips Stadion of PSV in Eindhoven. The round was opened by PSV player Daniel Schwaab in the presence of PSV director Toon Gerbrands, sports alderman Stijn Steenbakkers and Theo Henrar (chairman of the board of Tata Steel Netherlands). 

Many chess aficionados have come to Eindhoven to witness this Chess On Tour event, even from neighbouring countries. Anish Giri plays Iranian super talent Alirezi Firouzja (16). The other Dutchman in the Tata Steel Masters, Jorden van Foreest, faces Fabiano Caruana (the world’s number two). World champion Magnus Carlsen plays against Daniil Dubov from Poland. A school chess tournament and a conference about the social relevance of chess and the conncetion between brain sports and physical sports are also hosted at the PSV stadium today.
