Max Euwe Chess Court opened at Montessorischool in Beverwijk
On Thursday 23 January the Max Euwe Chess Court was opened on the schoolyard of the Montessori school in Beverwijk. Councillors Serge Ferraro (EZ) and Hanneke Niele (Tourism, Youth, Wijk aan Zee) and Myra Rooselaar (chairwoman of the Tata Steel Chess Tournament), the chess players Max Warmerdam and Stefan Kuipers were on hand to help the students from the school make the first move on the chess square.
After the opening, the students played a simultaneous chess match against Max Warmerdam (participant in the Challengers of the Tata Steel Chess Tournament 2020) and Stefan Kuipers (former participant of the Challengers group of the Tata Steel Chess Tournament)
This chess square is the 4th chess square in the region stemming from the collaboration between the municipality of Beverwijk and the Tata Steel Chess Tournament. The chess squares are a beautiful symbol of the connection between the municipality of Beverwijk and the Tata Steel Chess Tournament. Chess is not only fun but also has a connecting factor to bring people together and positively stimulate the development of youth. We hope that this chess square brings together more young people to play chess.
