Round 2 - Comeback day for the Dutch!
It was a good day for the two Dutch representatives in the Masters as both Anish Giri (against Kramnik) and Jorden van Foreest (against Duda) bounced back from their round 1 losses with impressive victories and what is more, both with the black pieces.
Shankland almost made it a third black win, but was eventually held to a draw by Rapport after 94 moves and 7 hours of play. The encounter between friends and rivals Carlsen and Nepomniachtchi was an interesting draw, which the World Champion later described as ‘brief but exciting’.
The Challengers section also saw two decisive results today – a comeback victory by Junior World Champion Parham Maghsoodloo against Paehtz and a win by German super talent Vincent Keymer over Stefan Kuipers.
