Tata Steel Chess on Tour to PSV Stadium in Eindhoven

Today we announced that Chess On Tour will visit Eindhoven in 2020. On Thursday, January 16, the world’s chess talents of the Tata Steel Masters will play their 5th round in the PSV Stadium. Around the event special activities will be organized by the municipality and chess associations aimed at young people and chess as a social connecting element. The surrounding municipalities, the business community and Brainport in particular will also be involved in the activities. The 82nd edition of the Tata Steel Chess Tournament takes place from 10 to 26 January 2020. The second Chess On Tour location will be announced later this year.

The Municipality of Alkmaar is a Chess Table Richer

In January 2019, Alkmaar was Host City of Chess on Tour during the Tata Steel Chess Tournament 2019. Last week, Grandmaster Lucas Van Foreest opened a chess table on the schoolyard of Primary School ‘Kardinaal de Jong’ together with Councilor Dijkman by playing a game of quick chess. A great new place in Alkmaar to learn chess, to play against each other and to meet new people.

Vladimir Kramnik announces end of chess career

Former world champion Vladimir Kramnik (43) has just announced that he will end his career as a professional chess player. Kramnik was world champion from 2000 until 2007. He dethroned Garry Kasparov by beating him 8.5 – 6.5 in 2000. Kramnik didn’t lose a single game during this world championship match. He has won virtually all top tournaments, including the Tata Steel Chess Tournament (in 1998).

Round 13 - Magnus Carlsen wins record seventh Tata Steel Chess Tournament

In their last round clash, Anish Giri tried to complicate matters with an exchange sacrifice but Magnus Carlsen had no problems neutralising the white threats and Anish soon offered a draw in an inferior position. With that result, Magnus Carlsen made it a record seventh victory at the Tata Steel Chess Tournament and also defended his title from last year.
